How We Research Our Greek Island Guides
Last updated: October 2026
Greek Island Holidays is an independent planning guide to the Greek islands. This page explains where the facts in our guides come from, how we date them, how often we recheck them, how the site is funded and how to tell us when something is wrong.
In short
We build each guide from official sources first: ferry operators, ports, municipalities, the Greek National Tourism Organisation and long-term weather records. Our main planning guides show the month we last checked their key facts, and we recheck prices and timetables every season. We currently take no commissions and run no ads or affiliate links. If you spot a mistake, email info@greekislandholidays.com.
Where our facts come from
We start with the organisations that actually run the service or publish the data, and only then look at anything else.
- Ferry operators. We check sailing times, routes and seasons against the operators' own timetables and notices, for example Blue Star Ferries, Seajets, Golden Star Ferries and Fast Ferries, and against independent timetable sites such as Ferryhopper and ferries.gr. When they disagree, we go with the operator.
- Ports, airports and local transport. Port information, airport connections and island bus (KTEL) timetables come from the port, airport or bus operator wherever they publish them.
- Municipalities and other public bodies. Local rules, beach access, closures and seasonal changes come from municipal and regional announcements and other official notices.
- The Greek National Tourism Organisation. We use Greece's official tourism body for background on destinations, sites and events.
- Weather and sea normals. Air temperatures and rain days in our month guides are long-term averages from the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (HNMS). Sea temperatures are ten-year ranges from seatemperature.info, shown as a range rather than one number.
We also read what travellers ask and report in public forums. We treat those reports as questions to check against an official source, not as facts.
Checked dates on key facts
Our main planning guides show a Checked month in the quick-answer box at the top, and most guides also show an Updated date under the title. For our ferry and month-by-month guides, we also keep notes of the source behind each key figure and the date we checked it.
- If an official source gives a figure, we use it. If sources disagree, we use the official one, give a range or say the figure is approximate.
- If we can't confirm something, we leave it out or say plainly that it needs checking.
- We don't publish ticket prices that change by the day. We link to the operator so you can see today's fare.
How often we recheck
Greek ferry timetables, bus schedules and opening dates change with the seasons, and some only appear a few weeks before they start. We recheck prices and timetables every season and update the checked date when we do. Even so, always confirm your sailing with the operator before you book anything you can't cancel.
How the site is funded
At the moment this site carries no ads and no affiliate links, and we earn no commissions from any hotel, ferry company, tour or booking site we mention. If that ever changes, we will label it clearly on the page where it appears and update this page.
What we don't do
- We don't present guesses as facts or invent figures to fill a gap.
- We don't copy timetables from other travel blogs. We go back to the source.
Spotted a mistake?
Please tell us. Email info@greekislandholidays.com with the page, what's wrong and, if you have one, a link to the official source. We check every report against the source, correct the page if needed and update its checked date.
